Wine Enthusiast:
Toasted oak, mocha and ripe dark-skinned fruit aromas lead the nose. The chewy, savory palate offers baked plum, vanilla and espresso alongside polished tannins. Drink through 2025. Kerin O’Keefe
Wine Spectator:
A lovely overtone of tarry mineral transitions to flavors of plump black cherry, cured tobacco and spiced orange peel on the palate of this finely knit, full-bodied red. Creamy tannins firm the lingering finish. Drink now through 2036. 900 cases made, 700 cases imported. — AN
Vinous:
The 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Cinque Stelle presents a dark and brooding display of crushed plums, raisins and tobacco and hints of cinnamon and lavender. It’s deeply textural and spicy on the palate, with vibrant acids to balance, while showing tart cherries, blackberries, balsamic spices and hints of mocha. A coating of fine tannin lingers, yet energy remains high throughout, lifted by notes of mint leaf and licorice. The Cinque Stelle falls comfortably between the sweet and savory styles of Amarone. - E.G.
James Suckling:
What a great combination here of dried fruit, leather and cedar and brighter aromas of pressed lavender and herbs. It’s certainly got power and punch, but the tannins are reserved and polished, the acidity colorful and vertical. A contrasty, tense style that keeps you on your toes throughout the drinking experience.
