Giovanni Sordo is a world-renowned Barolo producer, located in the heart of the well-known Barolo region. Currently, it is helmed by Giorgio, Giovanni’s son – the third generation of a family who has been producing wines for more than a century.
Barolo is known as “king of wines and wine of kings” and has been celebrated as Nebbiolo's best product for centuries. These wines were highly prized by the House of Savoy amongst the royal courts of Europe and are well-appreciated by wine enthusiasts globally.
The Sordo family stands out as the only existing winery which boasts eight different kinds of Barolo – the crus – whose vineyards are located in five famous Barolo sites. This luxury centenary wine company also distributes their Barolos across top Michelin restaurants world-wide. Their award-winning Barolos have been consistently featured in key wine journals and achieved numerous accolades in international wine competitions (including Japan).
Giovanni Sordo invests heavily in the latest technology while upholding the family’s commitment to tradition and respect for the territory. Big Slavonian oak barrels are the secret of this centenary winery as Slavonian wood is not invasive with the wine.
The Rocche di Castiglione Barolo is from one of the best vineyards in Castiglione Falletto. An elegant and powerful wine with smooth tannins, it has an intense and rich bouquet with berry notes, floral nuances, liquorice and tobacco notes. The Gabutti Barolo is from one of the most attractive and prestigious vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba. It is a well-structured and full-bodied wine with an expansive bouquet and oak notes and agreeable/sweet-tending tannins.
Sustainability is part of Sordo’s DNA. They plant different kinds of grasses to protect the soil from the run-off and increase the organic substance in the soil. They also avoid the use of chemical fertilizers. Their state-of-the-art phytodepuration system ensures that groundwater is returned to the soil, free from polluting substances.See the wines we have to offer
